New Moon

The big ball is lighted

Round and mighty

Hung above confidently

With an air of dare.

The heart is blighted

Dry and sultry

Sank inside forlornly

Not a beat to spare.

From a rickety ride I alighted

Worn and stultified

Gazed around falteringly

But never one to despair.

I wasn’t a bit slighted

Blessings and lessons

Surrounded by sticks

Yet not flustered.

The new moon comes to sight

Bright and promising

Exuding renewed bliss

Sweeping away the old.
